SPP

"Did you guys know? Actually Summer Pearl's original name is called Sky Pearl. Sky Pearl was formed at 19 May 2009 and released 13 song including solo. But after thinking twice, I decide to change Sky Pearl's name to Summer Pearl. Summer Pearl is also known as Natsu no Shinju in Romaji & 夏の真珠 in Kanji.

After the name got changed to Summer Pearl, only 6 of Sky Pearl got remained, that is, Aiko, Daniel, Valen, Yuki, Michiyo & Aya. Summer Pearl is then continued with 6 of them & new recruited members. 6 of them can be said as the seniors in Summer Pearl & they have the most experience on how Summer Pearl is worked.

Summer Pearl was formed on 26 August 2009. This is a project which dub J-Pop songs, mainly Hello! Project songs, but also non J-Pop songs like Chinese songs, and we are planning on dubbing Korean songs now! ^-^ It's quite same as the past project (Sky Pearl). Before in Sky Pearl, the major dubbing are Japanese, Chinese & Korean, but now we mainly focus on Japanese songs."

The above was pulled from Summer Pearl Project's YT channel, where leader StarMichiyo has a 'History of Summer Pearl' filling up the About Me section.I have only put up a portion of it, so if you're interested in reading further, simply check out the project's profile! I have been meaning to write something about Summer Pearl for forever now, and she's agreed to be interviewed! But all in good time, my dears.

SPP currently has six active groups + soloist; Morning Heart, Bubble Girlz, ºC-utie, S/Strawberry, Piika, Natsu Clover. The project has over 30 members, and has released around 100 dubs! And from the looks of things, Summer Pearl sticks to singing songs by the various groups of Hello! Project. If y'all are interested in exploring, they have a forum- it's setup is different than I've ever seen. I'm not used aimoo I suppose, lol.

Go Girl ~Love's Victory~ (Chinese Version) by Ice Cream MM / CClyrics / A lot of time when project's choose to sing mainly H!P, they sometimes end up sticking to the more popular or most recent songs & groups. It always makes me happy when I see that someone has dubbed ICM, because they sing in Mandarin, so it's H!P but still little different. And they are an awesome group!!

So when I chitchatted a bit with Michiyo of SPP and she shared a few dubs with me, the moment I saw this one I squealed happily and knew I was going to write about it. I love ICM dearly and have their album. I've learned the girls by name and I must say that ShenShen is my favorite. But getting back to the dub (lol), it's fantastic!!

I like how it was scripted; it's all duets, with the exception of a few trios throughout, and the solos near the end. Plus Valen does the "I'm in love you go boy" lines. I had a really fun time listening to this, the girls sound wonderful together and did a really good job overall. I'd love to hear more ICM songs by this Summer Pearl unit.

AYU-GELIA

OH! I never even thought of this until last night, but I FINALLY changed my settings so that anyone can comment on entries. I don't know why I didn't think of it before. I had it set to allow only those with an account, but I want to hear from everyone! So y'all should be able to comment now, and not just in the shoutbox~

I don't remember exactly why I've never covered SPP, but the time has come! And whoa, they are one busy little group. Their forums are very active, they seem to be working on a lot of things, & planning and sharing ideas. They do have a 'About SPP' kind of thread, but it isn't very informative, I didn't learn anything about the project from it.

StarMichiyo is the one behind all this, the creator and leader. You can tell English is not her first language, making her sentence phrasing odd and sometimes difficult to understand right away.

From what I can tell by looking at their forums, since no such info is listed on their YT channel, SPP has eight main groups, the last of which has been recently formed; Morning Heart, Bubble Girlz, ºC-utie, Lovely, Ice Cream MM, S/Strawberry, Sakura Kawaii, & HiKoJo3.

There are also shuffles, duets and something called Angel Princess; which I believe are their soloists. Some of these sections in the forums don't look as if they've been updated recently, except for the main groups. SPP also have a blog they started not too long ago, where they plan to keep listeners (etc) updated.

And now, what finally really caught my attention~

Ayu = Rika parts
Ayu = Yossi parts

Angelia by K-Ayu (ChiiAyu) of SummerPearlProject / I've only ever listened to maybe three H&A songs, and Ayu would end up singing the only one I have the MP3 of - the one I liked the most out of the handful I heard. This is cool song, I adore the melodies and the music. Since this is a concert version, I'm not sure if all the original vocals are fully removed (or as much as they can be). When listening, are Rika & Yossi in the mix, even faintly? Like on the beginning "Angelia"s? idk.

0:28 is Ayu's first solo line, and fjwf fjebnwf fhebwhj!!! She sounds epic. This is a really good song for her. I love love her on the verses, the melody is so pretty and it suits her voice. I like both of her "dake"s. I think she does a but of vocal imitation; sounds like she made her Rika and Yossi lines sound different on purpose. Which I guess isn't a bad thing, it lets you hear different sides of her voice. I'm just glad that I can still hear her, and not all imitation.

Chorus, 0:52!! All of her "Angelia"s in this song totally rock! I adore her harmony and melody parts, and the way she sounds with herself. I don't think I can pick which I like more in this; both the verses and chorus sound fantastic!! 1:27 is more solo Ayu - gosh, she sounds so fabulous!! I never tire of Ayuchan's lovely singing. She hits so so many nice notes in this dub. The solos are then followed by more awesome chorus, though I don't like the way the lyrics of this one sound as much as the first time around.

2:42! As I've mentioned before, I love the parts in songs towards the second half where the music quiets down and you can really hear the singers. Again, Ayuchan sounds SO good with herself. She sings the two parts spot on, and blends wonderfully. Oh, I was wrong when I said I didn't know what part I liked the most in this song, I do!! It starts at 3:09 and goes to about 3:25. The melody of this part is amazing and she nails it! Starting with the "Mou ichido, Boku ni hikari o"

Super props to Ayu and SPP for this spectacular release~
